There’s so much to see, the originally planned time just wasn’t sufficient. So I stayed two more nights in Bangkok. It’s hard to imagine, what you can experience here in three days. Examples:
- Spend hours on Wat Arun
- Get lost in Chinatown
- Spend some money on suits and shirts
- Get pissed with a group of Norwegians
- Watch a king cobra bite a man
- etc.
Tomorrow I’ll try to make my way to Kanchanaburi. Most of you will know the town, though not knowingly. If you know the film „The Bridge on the River Kwai“, then you know Kanchanaburi. It was exactly there, were all those things happened and the bridge is still standing. Some of the small travel agencies here offer it as a day trip, but as from what I can tell from the schedule, it’s hopping of the bus, take two photos (three, if your camera is fast) and off you go again. Not really what I plan for a relaxing holiday, particularly not in an area that is know for nature’s beauty.
And yes, it’s still close enough to Bangkok to come back, if public bus and guest houses don’t work out as expected.
Hm, where to begin with? Describing three days here is really difficult without writing a book.
You probably want to read about the cobra and the guy. No, it was NOT one of those snakes, that don’t have teeth or aren’t venomous any more. It was a REAL snake (king cobra, about 4 m long, head like a small fist – ah, have a look yourself: King Cobra at Bangkok Red Cross Station), with everything you would expect from it. Well, it was just that the guy kind of agitated the cobra and then, well, the animal was faster than he. The snake bit him in the foot, that i.e. in the shoe, to be exact. But it let go nearly immediately again. Lucky guy, but help would have been there anyway. Happened at a Red Cross snake farm, where they breed the animals to produce anti-venoms. And he had been biten before twice anyway, so he wasn’t even shocked, but handled the snake like before. Kind of REALLY cool guy, I must admit.
Well, my Internet time is quickly running out. I will update this article soon. Stay tuned on Radio Midge, live from Thailand!
