Arrival in Bangkok

30 hrs of fine travelling and finally in the City of Angels: hot, humid and if we have a „Feinstaubproblem“ in Austria, then here they need some serious desaster management team!

Finally at Buddy Lodge and then – breaking down: I slept my first afternoon in Bangkok, can you imagine?

But what a difference in the street`s appearance between 9 this morning and then 18:00 in the evening: What used to be a sleepy street is now a Copa Cabana-like boulevard. Where did they get all the people from? Of course I hit the street, man! And I had my first „street dinner“: Rice with pork, a good portion, 25 baht (that is a bit more than 50 cents, folks). Teka, we need to re-negotiate prices after this.

Wow, what a journey! 30 hours awake, 14 hrs flight time with stopover in Zurich. And quite an interesting route: After Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, Black Sea, Georgia, Azerbadjian, Kaspian Sea / and then, if it hadn`t been night, I could have seen all the „hot spots“ of the world: Afghanistan, Pakistan, Tadjikistan, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar and finally Thailand.

From Don Muang Airport, I took the bus to Thanon (street) Kao San, THE backpacker road here; the transfer took still about an hour. Lonely Planet recommend Buddy Lodge (www.buddylodge.com), and hey, the hotel is probably he best you can get here. So my „entry“ into this new culture isn`t too sudden. The room is spacious, teak wood decoration and the stuff, hot water, water closet, etc.

Well, I don`t know what happened between 10:30 and 17:30, I was just knocked out by tiredness. Anyway, being down on the street again, it was busting with life. And of course you have all the usual shop assistants trying to sell you something. Anyway, I had feared it to be worse, so everything is fine today.
